A tailor-made treatment for facial wrinkles
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a filler agent naturally present in the body. Acting like a sponge, it retains water and insures the proper level of hydration in the deep layers of the skin.
Hyaluronic Acid has proven to be a safe treatment. Many specialists use it to erase fine or deep wrinkles and rejuvenate the face by giving it a more serene and relaxed appearance. It is also used to restore volume (“soft lift”, “quick lift” and “non-surgical” lift)
What does the treatment involve?
Using a very fine needle, Dr Charbonneau injects Hyaluronic Acid into the dermis to a depth of only a few millimeters to fill wrinkles, or a little deeper to “lift” the skin.
Length of the treatment: 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the areas being treated
Duration of results: Since HA can be reabsorbed; effects are temporary and last about 6 to 8 months or, in the best-case scenario, up to 12 months. If large amounts are injected deeply, the effects can last from 12 to 24 months.

What skin conditions can Hyaluronic Acid correct?
Filler agents such as HA are used to:
- Correct surface or deep wrinkles on the forehead, at the corners of the eyes, between the eyebrows, or in the corners of the mouth
- Plump up and redefine lips
- Restore facial volume and remodel the contours of the face including the cheeks, cheekbones, and forehead
Is it painful?
Hyaluronic Acid injections are more uncomfortable than painful. This said, an anaesthetic cream applied on the treated region goes a long way to reduce discomfort.
Are there side effects?
Since Hyaluronic Acid is naturally present in the human body, there are practically no side effects. Treating wrinkles with HA may cause redness but it will not last more than 24 to 48 hours. It may also produce a slight edema that will subside quickly and may be reduced by applying ice on the treated area immediately after the injection. There could be some temporary bruising (purpura). Dr. Charbonneau and his team can treat persistent bruises on the day following the injection. A laser treatment will take only a few seconds and reduce bruising by 80% within 24 hours.
Results are noticeable immediately. Wrinkles are reduced as soon as the session is over but optimal results can be seen ten days after treatment — the time needed for the body to assimilate the acid completely.
Is this treatment right for me?
Not all skin types react in the same way to cosmetic dermatology. Only a qualified dermatologist can diagnose the best course of action to enhance your natural beauty. As part of a first consultation, Dr. Charbonneau, cosmetic dermatology specialist, will be happy to answer your questions so that you have all the information you need to make the right decision.
