An extremely precise abrasive laser, ideal for smoothing facial skin
The CO2 laser’s powerful beam can destroy certain skin structures with great precision.
Its abrasive powers make it the ideal treatment for deep wrinkles or skin that has lost its elasticity.
The CO2 laser treatment, called “resurfacing”, works well on eyelids and on lines around the mouth. This procedure, when done by a specialist, results in toned and rejuvenated skin.
Fractional CO2 lasers are among the most recent technologies in the field. Their effectiveness in treating wrinkles and scars make them the option of choice. Less risky in terms of infection, treatment recovery time is also shorter. Furthermore, it yields results that are more natural looking than do more conventional abrasive laser treatments.
What does the treatment involve?
CO2 laser procedures are done under local anesthesia, with or without intravenous sedation. Patients should avoid the sun a few weeks before and following treatment.
Length of the procedure: It depends on the area being treated. 10 to 15 minutes is enough for a cosmetic unit, while a full facial treatment may require up to 50 minutes.
Maintenance Phase: A thorough therapeutic follow-up is needed. Dr. Charbonneau will prepare your plan with you.
Are there any side-effects?
One thing is very clear in the scientific literature on this type of treatment — the greater the physician’s expertise, the lesser the risk of complication. Early detection of certain signs in the days following the procedure can lower the risk of complications that can then be avoided or minimized through treatment. This is why the attending physician’s expertise in cosmetic dermatology is so important.
CO2 laser treatment produces redness that can persist for 4 to 6 weeks (sometimes more). For a period of a few weeks to a few months, skin’s pigmentation can also be perturbed.
Is it painful?
C02 laser surgery only causes heightened skin sensitivity. Often, simple analgesics will do the trick.
Following a treatment a topical skin emollient like Vaseline, is applied on the treated zone for about 4 or 5 days, to keep it moist until the skin is healed. Within 7 or 8 days the epidermis should be completely reshaped/closed/rebuilt ???. Patients must take antibiotics for 7 to 10 days to avoid infection.
CO2 laser corrects wrinkles, even deep ones, and smoothes acne and other facial scars. It can also treat rhinophyma (brandy nose).
