Dr. Jacques Charbonneau: Cosmetic Dermatology Pioneer in Canada
Dr. Jacques Charbonneau became interested in scientific advances in the field of cosmetic dermatology in the 1990s when he first purchased laser equipment. “At the time, I tried to convince a few colleagues to embark on this adventure with me but most of them were afraid they would not get their investment back.” Laser treatment equipment can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Convinced that cosmetic dermatology was the way of the future, Dr. Charbonneau decided to go in it alone in 1996 and opened a clinic in the Ottawa-Gatineau region. That’s how the Institut du laser cutané de l’Outaouais was born.
A jewel in the crown for the Ottawa-Gatineau region
Time proved Dr. Charbonneau right! Fifteen years and 125,000 patients later, he heads the Institut du laser cutané de l’Outaouais and a team of more than ten full-time employees, including five certified nurses.
Dr. Charbonneau can boast a solid international reputation in the field of cosmetic dermatology. He was the first to use laser technology in Canada and has acquired a solid experience in administering Botox and using Hyaluronic Acid. By combining different types of treatments in order to yield better results for patients, Dr. Charbonneau has been at the forefront of scientific and technological innovation. The medical and scientific community alike seeks after his skills, and he is often asked to mentor or train other specialists.
The art of the beautiful
Jacques Charbonneau is not only a man of science. Beauty and art, in all its manifestations, are at the heart of who he is. His interests include music, painting and architecture. In fact, cosmetic dermatology is at once a complex science and an art. When he meets with a patient, he immediately focuses on the positive features that can be enhanced. By focusing first on understanding his patients’ needs, he can then strive for natural-looking results, which will give the skin back its healthy look. However, the health and safety of his patients are paramount. A testimony to his professional ethics, no major incidents have occurred under his care in more than 15 years of practice.
Discreet and Community-minded
Dr. Charbonneau knows how lucky he is. With a flourishing clinic and constantly growing practice since 1996, he wants to give something back to his community.
For several years now, he has been the main sponsor for the benefit concert for La Maison Mathieu-Froment, a palliative care centre in Ottawa-Gatineau. He supports other charities, such as the United Way, as well.
Jacques Charbonneau is the father of 8 (yes, 8!) children who are the apple of his eye. He is even the proud grandfather of a beautiful baby girl.
